Chloride

Track electrolyte balance via Chloride levels. Monitor chloride levels, which can be depleted by sweat, caffeine, or low-salt diets.

What is Chloride?

Chloride is one of the body's most important electrolytes. It is primarily found in the extracellular fluid and performs several critical roles, such as supporting cells from shrinking or swelling, digestion, and an important function known as the "Chloride Shift".

Why does urine have Chloride?

When you consume salt (sodium chloride), your body takes what it needs to maintain electrical neutrality and fluid volume. Any excess chloride that isn't needed is filtered out by the kidneys and excreted through urine.

Why track your Chloride?

While many track sodium, tracking chloride provides a more complete picture of electrolyte balance, especially after intense endurance exercise, where chloride loss is high. It is common for endurance athletes to treat salt as a hemodynamic lever. By increasing salt intake, they are intentionally triggering the body to hold onto more water to expand blood volume. So maintaining a reasonable balance can be the key to success.

Keep the current flowing. Use BodyCheck to track Chloride and maintain the electrical charge your muscles need to perform.
