Specific Gravity

Measure your urine's concentration to tell you if you are drinking enough water for your activity level.

What is Specific Gravity?

Specific gravity is a measure of the concentration of particles (i.e. desnsity) in a liquid compared to pure water.

Why does urine have Specific Gravity?

Urine is never just water. The kidneys filter the blood to remove waste products and excess nutrients while maintaining a precise balance of water in your body. Urine has a specific gravity because it contains metabolic wastes, electrolytes, and other Solutes.

Why track your Specific Gravity?

Tracking urine’s specific gravity is often used as a more precise "data-driven" alternative to just checking urine color. Urine concentration can tell you if you are drinking enough water for your activity level. High specific gravity after a workout might suggest significant fluid loss and a need for electrolyte-rich rehydration, not just plain water.

Upgrade your hydration. Use BodyCheck to track Specific Gravity and see exactly how well your cells are fueling up.
