From engineering research to BodyCheck
YouCount began with engineering, sensors, and machine vision—and a belief that people deserve better than visually guessing at a colour chart.
The problem started with the reading
Traditional colour-chart strips ask the user to compare subtle shades under whatever lighting happens to be available. That makes the reading vulnerable to the room, the camera, and the eye doing the comparison.
YouCount took a different path. Founded in British Columbia in 2017, the company began from engineering research in biomedical systems, sensors, and machine-vision instrumentation. BodyCheck grew from a simple question: what would it take to make at-home urine-biomarker tracking more controlled and repeatable?
Building the environment around the strip
The answer was not another colour chart. BodyCheck pairs the chemistry of the test strip with a reusable reader that creates a controlled-light environment. Machine vision and sensors then help translate the strip response into structured information.
That approach brings together three disciplines:
- Hardware, to control the physical reading conditions.
- Machine vision, to interpret colour response consistently.
- Analytics, to make repeated results easier to understand over time.
Designed for people who act on data
BodyCheck is built for biohackers, athletes, bodybuilders, and science-minded wellness consumers who want more than a one-off result. The platform reads 12 urine biomarkers across Exercise & Recovery, Hydration, and Meals & Nutrition, with a test taking about two minutes.
The product is engineered for precision and tested to CLSI standards. It is a wellness and performance platform—not a medical device or a substitute for professional healthcare advice.
YouCount’s work continues to centre on the same principle that shaped the first prototype: if a signal is worth acting on, it should be measured in a repeatable way.
