Why controlled light matters when reading a test strip

Colour is information—and lighting changes colour

A urine test strip works by producing colour responses. Reading those colours accurately is not only a chemistry problem; it is also an imaging problem.

Ambient light can vary dramatically. A warm bedside lamp, cool office lighting, daylight from a window, and a phone camera’s automatic corrections can make the same colour look different. Human visual comparison adds another variable, especially when two shades are close.

Control the image before interpreting it

BodyCheck uses a reusable reader to create a controlled-light environment around the strip. That controlled environment gives the platform a more consistent starting point for machine vision and sensor analysis.

The workflow is designed around three steps:

  1. The test strip develops its colour response.
  2. The BodyCheck reader controls the conditions in which that response is captured.
  3. Machine vision and analytics translate the captured signal into structured wellness and performance information.

This does not make context disappear. Hydration, timing, nutrition, exercise, and normal biological variation still matter. It does make the optical part of the process more deliberate than holding a strip beside a printed chart under changing room light.

The practical value of controlled light is consistency. When users repeat a wellness routine, reducing avoidable variation in the reading environment helps make trends easier to follow.
